Christienne de Tournay Birkhahn

 

Chrise is an independent zero waste consultant, educator, and advocate. She is a certification instructor for Zero Waste USA, and coordinator for its annual National ZW Conference.

 

As Chair of the City of Berkeley’s Zero Waste Commission (appointed in 2017); she designed and facilitated the public input-gathering process for the City's landmark 2019 Single-Use Disposable Food Ware & Litter Reduction ordinance, making key recommendations that secured a unanimous affirmative vote. She specializes in stakeholder outreach for municipalities for pre- and post-policy efforts.

 

Projects include: San Francisco Environment department (SFE), City of Berkeley (assistant project manager ZW Strategic Plan), City of Palm Springs, and Washington DC. She was project manager of marketing, education and outreach efforts for California’s Carpet Stewardship program/CARE, program manager of Dominican University’s Sustainable Business Practices certificate program, and executive director of the EcoMom Alliance (NGO). She is a creative professional with over 25 years in design, manufacturing of consumer products and marketing materials. Professional certifications include: ZWUSA Zero Waste Associate, Sustainable Resources Management (GreenEducation.US) and Sustainable Business Practices from Dominican University, CA. She holds a BA from UC Berkeley.
